Liven up your boring UITableView: part 1

Boring UITableView I've seen so many iPhone applications that look like this. White background. Helvetica. Yawn. Apple make it very easy to make apps that look like every other one. But why not stand out in the App Store? Some small tweaks can make your app look much more stylish, without confusing users.

4 lessons from our first two months as a collective

The Socialist Newborn Things are Fine!ReignDesign is now a collective. What does that mean? To be honest, I think we're still figuring it out. But a few of the things that we've learned so far are:

1) Group decision-making is a double-edged sword. On one hand, it gives people a feeling of empowerment and ownership. On the other hand, it's easy to waste a lot of time. To adjust for this, we've established some ground rules for granularity of decision-making (purchases under $50 don't need a full vote, it's better to get started on something and bring in others' ideas later than to sit around and wait or schedule a meeting, etc.).

iPhone OS 3.0 New Features

Apple We'll Be Back

At SXSW, Apple just announced some new information on the 3.0 iPhone OS feature set. Apparently, Apple hasn't been sitting back enjoying their significant market lead. They've decided to really clamp down on their competitors and drop an astounding 1000+ new API's into their 3.0 iPhone OS. As of writing this article, the iPhone developer website has been taken down to update all the new content. And there is some interesting stuff in there...

Using your own SQLite database in Android applications

Android Dev.Most all of the Android examples and tutorials out there assume you want to create and populate your database at runtime and not to use and access an independent, preloaded database with your Android application.

The method I'm going to show you takes your own SQLite database file from the "assets" folder and copies into the system database path of your application so the SQLiteDatabase API can open and access it normally.
